EmailThe PIPER Compass for Living is a resource tool that will aid in the navigation of the mental health system and beyond. Beyond what you may ask? Beyond doctors and hospitals and life that seems to be so entrenched in the mental health system. Life is about new experiences and growing. PIPER wants to aid in opening up a new world to Peers, in addition to providing information for family members and providers.
The intent of this manual is to have as much information at your fingertips, without having to do needless hours of searches. If you know what you are looking for the information is provided in a clear concise format, designed to be user friendly.
While it is true that there are many DIRECTORIES available The PIPER COMPASS for Living is packed with information covering important topics such as housing in addition to giving an account of how we have evolved to where we are today in Mental health history,
Facts about health issues are supplied while covering the laws and bills that govern our community.
Why is the PIPER COMPASS for Living invaluable? It is the only Directory and How to Resource Manual in the Mental Health Community to offer such a wide range of information, while covering such a large geographic area,
But that is only the tip of the iceberg, so they say.
What is the purpose of putting a book of this nature out? The purpose and goal is to help all people to be able to find the information that will empower them and bring them one step closer in the healing and recovery process.
It is PIPER’s belief that to become empowered one must first have the proper information at ones disposal. No matter how hard one may want to better themselves, without certain resources and supports in place it is highly unlikely to happen. The cliché’ “No man is an Island” is still very true.
Vital information is difficult to obtain when you are not computer savvy or do not own a computer. There is only one way to resolve this problem and that is to make the manual available in book form in addition to internet access.
But what is the big deal about the PIPER Compass? It is being designed to help peers to move out of their comfort zones. To learn how to take available information and empower themselves. What’s more it is the first manual to supply information that will assist in the moving forward on the journey of recovery and healing. How, you ask? The Compass is being designed to aid Family Peers and Providers. But the most important feature is to advance the growth of the peer.
Healing and recovery are multy faceted. Learning to explore more of the world through travel
Can be extremely empowering, and this is why it is being incorporated into the pages of the Compass.
There is a commercial that we all have seen which says” An educated consumer is our best customer. Why is that true?
Because education gives you the edge. Understanding how things work is crucial to moving forward. The best way to keep any culture suppressed is to keep them ignorant to the bigger picture, new information and anything that can give confidence or empowerment. Many peers are struggling to just survive another day that is not life at its best. If we can move past just surviving through knowledge then the next step is the exploration of the world around us. PIPER has made an attempt to bring it to your door.
There will always be another directory and other resources but
At this moment in time PIPER believes this manual to be the most comprehensive instrument of its kind.
At the end of January as promised we will be sending this to print. We have applied for a line item grant from Senator Trunzo but will not have an answer till late March or April. The other delay is the incorporation of PIPER. The incorporation papers recently have been submitted and now we are waiting for the papers to come back.
It is the desire of PIPER to begin to teach agencies the most efficient way to use the resource manual. Many agencies have expressed a desire to receive the manual, but the promotion of distribution can not take place until we have the completed pages in our possession. Many peers and agencies have been very helpful, supportive and have made this manual what it is due to their efforts.
Although it is not yet complete it is very close to the finish line and we are very excited about launching this new resource for the year 2008.
Although I do not follow numerology, the number 8 stands for new beginnings. I hope 2008 brings that for you.
